Natasha Smith // Surfer

from $150.00

Natasha Smith grew up in Virginia Beach and spent much of her time near the water when she wasn’t playing basketball and participated in motocross racing. She first began surfing during a work trip to California. She perfected her surfing skills learning from locals. Smith eventually moved to the west coast, becoming a nomad, living in her van so that she can stay near the water. She surfs from San Diego all the way to the bay and teaches as many people as she can along the way, to help bring more awareness and advocacy to protecting the ocean and supporting women of color who are involved in the sport.

“I just like to be the one to open the door for more people like me and hopefully they decide to come through.” – Natasha Smith

The "Wade in the Water" limited-edition portrait series showcases activists, pioneers, and future leaders in SoCal’s BIPOC surf community adorned with the leaves of Afrocarpus gracilior, aka the African Fern Pine.
