Jessa Williams // Founder Intrsxtn Surf

from $150.00

Jessa Williams is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and has been living in Los Angeles for four years. With a bachelor’s degree in communications, Williams works as a marketer for a technology company. She learned to surf in 2020 after she signed her son up for lessons in the sport. Although she said surfing was the hardest thing she has ever learned, she is hooked on the challenging, fun and meditative aspects of the sport. Williams is the founder of Intrsxtn Surf. The organization’s name is a play on the word, “"intersectionality,” which acknowledges how more than one part of someone's identity impacts them and how they show up in the world and are marginalized in different spaces. The organization seeks to create a safe space for Black girls, women and WOC in surf, and provides free surfing lessons for women of color with a focus on beginners. Intrsxtn Surf also has a surf-streetwear apparel brand.

“Give yourself permission.” – Jessa Williams

The "Wade in the Water" limited-edition portrait series showcases activists, pioneers, and future leaders in SoCal’s BIPOC surf community adorned with the leaves of Afrocarpus gracilior, aka the African Fern Pine.
